EVENT UPDATE: Sunday 28 March Event Rescheduled

Tuesday 6 April

Good evening Kingy Triathletes,

We are very pleased to confirm that the Kingy Tri is rescheduled for Sunday 23 May 2021.

The program is as follows:

  • Tempta 6.25am
  • Sprint 6.40am
  • Olympic 7.15am
  • Juniors 9.50am
  • Big Kids 10.00am

Having driven on the cycle course many times over the past week, it is clear that there was no safe way we could have raced on these roads.

Cudgen Creek is clearing up slowly and by May will be perfect for our swim, there is even a chance for a rare Kingy wetsuit swim!

We have transferred every entry to the new May start list.

We understand some of you may not be able to make the new date and there are options available to you. You may request a 100% credit or direct transfer to another event. Please contact us via reply email or call the team on 02 8507 0796.

Yours in triathlon,

Mike Crawley, Race Director

Sunday 28 March

Good afternoon Kingy Tri Athletes,

Well here we are on a beautiful Kingy Sunday, just unfortunately without our Kingy Tri.

Thanks to all those triathletes and their friends who decided to proceed with their stay over the weekend. There was a lot of you playing bowls yesterday, or at least socialising at the Bowls Club!

We are working to reschedule the event to the weekend of 22 and 23 May 2021.

It has been difficult to find a Sunday with a high tide before Winter that doesn’’t already have an event, so this is our only date.

We will have a full update email to everyone before Easter.

Be safe during these times,

Mike Crawley, Race Director

Tuesday 23 March

Good afternoon Kingy Tri Athletes,

Regrettably I am writing to share some poor news regarding our Kingy Tri. We have just convened a Safety Committee Meeting including athletes, officials, police, medical, surf life saving and community representatives.

The present situation is:-

  • The swim will not under any circumstance be possible in the creek due to pollution
  • The ocean swim will not be possible given surf size forecast and water quality
  • The parklands may dry out with sunny days ahead (forecast from Wednesday afternoon) but at present we cannot operate transition or the start/finish area
  • The cycle course has been damaged in numerous places with sizeable potholes and gravel across the road
  • The Tweed Shire Council have formally advised that given other demands on their resources in rural areas due to flooding, they can not commit to repairing the potholes by the weekend.

Additionally the local community has priorities including dispatching surf life savers and other personnel South to assist with flood rescues.

As a result, the Safety Committee has recommended the Sunday 28 March Kingscliff Triathlon to be abandoned.

We are saddened by this decision, but need to stay focused on assisting our communities in need during these times and I hope you will appreciate that this was not our preference.

We understand a number of you will need to renegotiate accommodation and travel thus why the Safety Committee Meeting has been called this morning, not tomorrow.

We are working to investigate if other dates are possible for a Kingy Tri postponement but until we gather all stakeholders, we can not confirm this.

Therefore requests for credits, refunds and transfers cannot be processed and in effect your entries are on hold at this point in time. We expect to have a confirmed position by Monday 29 March or sooner.  We will be in touch with you as soon as this position is clear.

Again sincere apologies for this upset.

Be safe during these times,

Mike Crawley, Race Director
