New in 2024, the Discover Tri is a family friendly event for kids and parents to enjoy.
The Discover Tri is a fully supervised event with officials, lifeguards and volunteers supporting and coaching our little legends every step of the way.
Kids can compete by themselves or alongside their parents in a Triathlon (swim, ride and run) or Aquathlon (swim, run). This is a non-competitive, and non-timed event that is designed for maximum fun.
For Kids looking to be a bit more competitive – check out our Kids Triathlon.

When you arrive at the venue you will need to sign in at the registration area. Line up based on your age group, you will then be asked for your surname and first name.
You will receive your registration pack which will include two of each of the following:
- Bike Sticker
- Helmet Sticker
- Bib Number – Put this on your shirt (front) with safety pins or on your race belt.
- Swim cap – Make sure it is the right colour for your wave.

Parking
Parking for athletes and supporters is available at three primary locations. Athletes and supporters will be assisted in parking by traffic controllers.
Parking is central to registration and transition. Do not park illegally or across driveways as this causes stress within the community. A reminder that council will be onsite all day giving out fines after previous problems.
Parking will not be available on the course, or in many of the streets adjacent to Marine Parade, such as Pearl Street or Seaview Street. It is strictly forbidden to park in the Kingscliff Shopping Village and Woolworths, and athlete’s vehicles will be towed.
Parking is available at:
– Rotary Park next to Sutherland Street Bridge
– Jack Julius Park next to Sutherland Street Bridge
– Jack Bayliss Park (site of Kingscliff Markets) north of Bowls Club on Marine Parade
Please do not park illegally as council will be onsite all day giving out fines.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Event Information
Absolutely! The Discover Tri program is designed for beginners as a healthy weekend activity for families. Our crew and volunteers are onsite ready to assist with any questions and guide them through the swim, ride and run.
The event is not timed and every child receives a medal at the finish – it’s all about the fun experience!
There is the option for children who may be nervous about the swim, ride or run to skip one of the legs. We do encourage them to do the other two however, to get their multi-fun experience.
Parents can choose between the Triathlon (swim, ride, run) or the Aquathlon (swim, run) at checkout.
There is the option for parents to take part with their child for the Discover Tri.
Kids who want to take it on themselves will start first, with the Kids who want to take it on alongside a parent a few seconds later.
Parents will bring their own bike, helmet and gear and complete all three legs alongside their child.
An Event Guide will be emailed to all families in the month prior to the event with all the information you need to know.
A final Event Update email and text message will also be sent out on the Wednesday prior to the event with any final updates you need to know about.
Our Facebook page will also house regular updates.
If you have any questions in the meantime feel free to give our team a call on 1300 28 29 49.

- Check In – handing out packs
- Transition – helping the kids with their bikes
- Course Marshals – providing direction and cheering on the kids as they go past.
- Finish Line – handing out medals, water and fruit
You can sign up through our volunteer portal here.
Whether it’s a bike with two wheels, balance wheels or a balance bike, as long as it’s in a safe working condition you’re good to go!
